Finally Spring is in the air, the days are getting longer and lighter and so we thought we would look through the celebrated food days coming up in April and May for some foodie inspiration for a Spring Devon Wedding.
One of the most fun and trendy food items of the moment is popcorn – April 6th is National Caramel Popcorn Day in the USA, and although caramel is a great and traditional flavour to add to popcorn it is by no means the only flavour. This modern foodie trend started at music festivals, and now can be seen in many markets and events across the UK including fabulous weddings. As a savoury snack to be passed out as a canapé or as a sweet item to be put on the dessert table or as a fun mini course all on its own – think salt and vinegar popcorn or salted beef flavour popcorn to make this unique food reflect you on your special day.
Spring is always associated with Easter and with two bank holidays it is a popular time for weddings. If you are having an Easter wedding then take some inspiration from the traditional food at this time of year – Hot Cross Buns, or mini hot cross buns would be a great food nod to Easter, and serving lamb as a main while always being delicious is also a traditional roast for this time of year. These spring wedding food ideas fit in well with National Hot cross Bun Day in April and National Roast leg of lamb day in May.
There is nothing that really says goodbye to winter more that strawberries, they are just the taste of summer, and it is in May that they really start to come into their own. This is obviously why in May there is national pick your own strawberries day, national strawberries and cream day and May is also National Strawberry month – phew! That’s a lot of strawberries! Luckily strawberries are a sublime fruit that lend themselves to being enjoyed in many different ways, strawberries dipped in chocolate, strawberry and spinach salad, strawberry pavlova, strawberries and cream, strawberry ice-cream, strawberry smoothies and strawberries served with champagne are only a few of the ways we can think of to serve this gorgeous fruit on your wedding day for more ideas on how we can incorporate your favourite foods into an incredible wedding menu contact us today for a chat and a quote.
May 13th is National Apple Pie Day – which got us thinking about how to serve great traditional desserts at a wedding. Sweeties tables have been popular in recent years but we also think that servicing a great selection of sweet pies, like apple, blackberry or rhubarb so everyone can help themselves to a slice and add their favourite accompaniment – custards, cream or ice cream! You could also take this a step further by having the dessert table made up of your favourite British Desserts and include options like trifle, sticky toffee pudding or rice puddings just waiting for everyone to take a spoonful of their favourite or for a more elegant look your could have individual portions of these desserts served at the table.
Not forgetting the drinks, in Germany April 23rd is the Day of German Beer! Serving different or interesting drinks that mean something to you at your wedding is always a great idea! You could serve a drink that is special to you as a welcome drink or as the toast – remember it doesn’t have to be champagne!
